$12.8M in Funding Authorized for Arizona Wildfire Recovery

The U.S. Division of Agriculture has agreed to offer $12.8 million in emergency funding to assist elements of Arizona recuperate from three main wildfires lately, two members of the state’s congressional delegation introduced.

Sens. Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly stated the cash comes from funding approved by the Infrastructure Funding and Jobs legislation to guard communities, assist restoration efforts, and scale back hazardous fuels on federal, state and tribal lands.

The Museum Hearth burned over 3 sq. miles within the San Francisco Peaks exterior Flagstaff in 2019. The Bush Hearth burned greater than 302 sq. miles within the Saguaro Lake space east of Mesa in 2020. The Telegraph Hearth burned over 282 sq. miles close to Superior and Miami in 2021.

In an October letter requesting the funding, Sinema and Kelly stated this previous summer time’s monsoon triggered flooding from the Museum Hearth’s burn scar, endangering lives, property and Flagstaff’s watershed.

“We’re glad the administration agreed to our request and launched federal catastrophe funding, offering much-needed reduction for Arizona communities nonetheless experiencing the impacts of wildfires,” stated Sinema.
