U.S. Soccer has reached a $24 million settlement with the ladies’s nationwide staff to settle allegations that females have been paid lower than their male counterparts.
The deal, introduced Tuesday in a joint statement, would resolve one of many largest authorized fights over equal pay for female and male athletes in U.S. sports activities. The elite U.S. girls’s staff sued in March 2019, saying they’re paid lower than the lads’s staff.
“We’re happy to announce that, contingent on the negotiation of a brand new collective bargaining settlement, we could have resolved our longstanding dispute over equal pay and proudly stand collectively in a shared dedication to advancing equality in soccer,” U.S. Soccer and the ladies’s nationwide staff mentioned within the assertion.
A federal choose in Los Angeles initially tossed the swimsuit after concluding they really earned greater than the lads in 2017-2018 and that the pay discrepancy was as a result of variations the staff negotiated of their collective bargaining agreements.
